I’ve got a handful of perfect little fox skulls across a few different age groups. I’ve categorised them by the presence of their adult teeth and the level of suturing across the different plates that make up the skull. The first picture shows the largest adult with the smallest kit; the closeup dentition shots show the teeth of a kit, a juvi, and an adult sequentially; followed by a comparison shot of an example of each alongside to show the differences in size. The rest are pics of the kits, as they are so damn cute I couldn’t pick which images to cull haha.

Adult foxes are the largest, and have all of their adult teeth (minus a few from natural causes here and there). The skulls have fully sutured. These skulls are around 14cm to 16cm long.

Juveniles are medium size, with a mix of milk and adult teeth, and in some places the sutures of the skull are a little bit more evident as they have yet to fully fuse. Some of these skulls may show double dentition, where the emerging adult teeth are visible alongside the milk teeth that are being replaced. Thee skulls are between 12cm and 15cm long.

Kits are the smallest size, and have all of their milk teeth. Some kits may have adult teeth emerging, but externally only show the milk teeth. These are the smallest skulls, and are between 9cm and 11cm long.

These were salvaged from a taxidermists waste bin, and were culled from the wild as foxes are an incredibly destructive invasive pest specie in Australia.
