Clownfish (Nemo)
Clownfish (Nemo)
The irony of the film ‘Finding Nemo’ was that in attempting to tell a story about the suffering of a captured clownfish, it inadvertently increased the demand for the species in the aquatic trade. In the years following the films release, Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris) have become so popular that the increase in trade has been dubbed ‘the Nemo effect’.
While this has caused problems for their conservation (many species of Clownfish are actually endangered, and often arms of the pet industry take from the wild), on the positive side there are now many facilities around the world breeding them for both the pet trade and for release back into the wild.
These gorgeous little dual stained clownfish were natural deaths from the pet industry, and were obtained from a captive breeding program.
